ABOUT US

Ft. Thomas Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary medical facility located in Ft. Thomas, KY. Our professional and courteous staff offer the best possible medical, surgical, and dental care for our highly valued cat and dog patients.Our office is open Monday through Saturday and we operate by appointment only; however, we are capable of handling emergencies during regular business hours. We perform surgery Monday through Friday with most patients going home the same day. We are pleased to offer extended hours on Wednesday, until 8:00 pm, and Saturday morning from 8:00-noon.We are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership, preventative health care, and health-related educational opportunities for our clients. Once you visit our office you will understand why most of our clients have been returning for years and referring us to their friends and family. In fact, many of our clients continue to visit us even after moving many miles away.Our support staff is trained to reduce your pet's anxiety and provide safe, gentle support during exams and procedures. We offer explanations prior to procedures or services. We also believe in client education and staff demonstration so you may provide at-home care to your pet with confidence. Teaching may include training in areas such as: nail trimming, anal gland expression, fluid or medication administration including injections for diabetic patients on insulin, or dental care.Ft. Dr. Jean Pritchard, DVM

Dr. Pritchard is owner and practicing veterinarian at Fort Thomas Animal Hospital. Dr. Jean and her colleagues practice small and large animal medicine, including: preventative care, medical support for sick or injured pets, as well as general and emergency surgery. A Highlands Bluebird alum, she went on to study at the University of Kentucky and graduated with her DVM from The Ohio State University in 1985. Post graduation, Dr. Jean practiced small animal medicine in Clermont County. She became owner of Fort Thomas Animal Hospital in October 1990 and has been a contributing member to the community ever since. She currently resides on a ranch in Ross, KY surrounding herself with dogs, cats, cows, and horses.

Dr. Allen Turner, DVM

Dr. Turner grew up in Christian County, Western Kentucky. He moved to Northern Kentucky in 1983 and attended Northern Kentucky University. He moved to Alabama in 1986 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. Dr. Turner has been practicing at Fort Thomas Animal Hospital since 1995. His interests include internal medicine and dermatology, as well as soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. He now lives in Batavia, OH with his two dogs, Pedro and Fiona (pictured).

MONA

Dr. Mona Vickery, DVM

Dr. Vickery received her DVM from Louisiana State University in 1980 and has practiced in the Tri-State area since 1986.She and husband, Adrian, have two sons, one beagle, one corgi and one cat. In her spare time, Dr. Vickery loves to travel, follow her favorite sports teams, and hang out with her family, friends, and pets. She says she is very proud to be a part of the FTAH staff.

SERVICES

CHECK UPS

We offer well and sick office call visits. If you are visiting for a routine annual physical exam, please bring with you a stool sample from your pet. Be prepared to answer basic questions, such as: the type of food you feed your pet and any medications you currently give them. If you are coming in for a sick office call, please do not allow your pet to urinate or defecate prior to their exam so that we can collect a sample for diagnostics, if necessary. Be prepared to give a detailed history about your pet's recent illness. If you are bringing an unvaccinated puppy experiencing anorexia, vomiting or diarrhea, please tell the receptionist upon arrival. Toe nail trims are always free of charge during an office call. Vaccinations are done by a veterinarian during an office call or while your pet is here for surgery. All vaccinations are accompanied by a physical exam by one of our vets.

DENTISTRY

FTAH is a strong advocate of preventative dental health for pets. We offer tips and products for pet teeth brushing to prevent tooth decay/gum disease. Our doctors routinely conduct oral exams during checkups and suggest dental cleanings when needed. A dog or cat having a dental procedure will stay the day with us. Cleanings are done under anesthesia with an ultrasonic scaler. During your pet's dental cleaning one of our doctors will thoroughly examine your pet's mouth. Dental radiography may be used to determine the condition of your pet's teeth and roots. Tooth extraction is sometimes necessary to remove a diseased tooth. We give our patients pain relief injections during oral surgery and send them home with a four day supply of oral pain relief medications. Your pet may need to spend the night if he/she has had extractions. As always, we recommend all dental patients have an IV catheter placed for safety measures during their procedure.

SURGERIES

SPAY AND NEUTER

Spaying (for females pets) and neutering (for male pets) cuts down on the exponentially increasing population of homeless animals.

Our doctors perform daily complete ovarian hysterectomies for females and castration for males. You will have a choice for us to perform traditional scalpel or modern laser surgery. Laser surgery offers patients less post-operative discomfort and generally a speedier recovery.

Spaying or neurtering your pet also greatly reduces the risk of some hormone related, life-threatening diseases (breast, uterine, and testicular cancer) later in life.

We recommend all surgical patients have an IV catheter during their procedure.

Spayed/Neutered patients typically go home SAME DAY! Please discuss when would be best to spay/neuter your pet with your doctor during the physical exam.

DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHS

Fort Thomas Animal Hospital offers the modern technology of digital radiology.

Benefits over conventional x-rays include less wait time, more accurate interpretation of the image, and the ability to include our clients in the viewing process in the exam room.

Also, digital radiology allows us to electronically send your pet's x-rays to a specialist quickly and easily if the need arises.

K-LASER TREATMENT

Laser Therapy, or "photobiomodulation", is the use of specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, decreased swelling, pain reducation, increased circulation and improved mobility, especially in the aging pet. During Laser Therapy, the infrared laser light interacts with tissues at the cellular level that leads to a cascade of beneficial effects in function and health. There is no patient sedation or restraint required and the experience is usually pleasant and comforting for your pet. Although improvement may be seen after the first visit, most patients require several treatments (3 to 8) for greatest results. For most conditions, we recommend a multi-visit treatment plan. Treatments vary in length, but most areas of the body require 2 to 10 minutes of treatment. Our veterinarian will recommend a treatment plan specific to your pet's needs.

Wondering what breeds make up your lovable mut...well now we can tell with a simple blood test.Our DNA testing is more accurate than the offered buccal cheek swab.This test is currently only designed for canines. MICROCHIP

HomeAgain MICROCHIPPING

Dog and cat microchipping is a simple procedure. A veterinarian simply injects a microchip for pets, about the size of a grain of rice (12mm), beneath the surface of your pets skin between the shoulder blades. The process is similar to a routine shot, takes only a few seconds, and your pet will not react any more than he would to a vaccination. No anesthetic is required.A HomeAgain microchip is permanent pet ID. The microchip itself has no internal energy source, so it will last the life of your pet. It is read by passing a microchip scanner over the pets shoulder blades. The scanner emits a low radio frequency that provides the power necessary to transmit the microchips unique cat or dog ID code and positively identify the pet.HomeAgain is the only dog & cat microchipping product on the market today that has the Bio-Bond patented anti-migration feature to help ensure that the microchip will stay in place so that it may be easily located and scanned. If your pet gets lost and is taken to an animal shelter or veterinarian, they will scan the microchip to read its unique dog or cat ID code. BOARDING

We have limited boarding space for established patients who are up to date on vaccinations. These boarding spaces tend to fill up quickly, especially during the holidays; therefore, it is recommended to reserve space early. Some vaccinations require a period of time to be effective, so pets boarding with us must have an exam and vaccinations done PRIOR to boarding as we do not do routine, physical exams and vaccinations during a boarder's stay. Please bring your pet's own food to avoid stomach upset due to diet change. Pet's requiring oral or injectable medications will have a daily medication administration fee added to boarding. We ask that you leave toys, blankets, bowls, and leashes at home. We are fully equipped with blankets, beds, and toys for our furry guests. Feel free to leave special food and treats as we love to spoil our boarders throughout the day. FTAH does not guarantee the return of non-food items left with your boarding pet.

GROOMING

BASIC GROOMING

Although we are not a full-service grooming facility, FTAH does offer complete shave

downs for cats and dogs who might require sedation or anesthesia for grooming.

A routine grooming appointment includes a bath, toe nail trim, anal gland expression, ear cleaning and brush out. We use an oatmeal shampoo for general bathing. We offer the convenience of allowing you to drop your pet off in the morning and pick up in the evening.

We also offer medicated baths for pets with skin issues as well as medicated shampoo products for at home pet use.
